The Englewood Public School District seeks 10 college students with sophomore or higher standing to work with middle school students enrolled in the AVID program. Tutorial sessions will take place during the school day at the Janis E. Dismus Middle School in Englewood. The students need tutors with strong understanding and skills in mathematics (through Algebra 1), writing (any subject area), and reading for understanding. The district will provide 14 hours of paid training to prepare tutors to use inquiry strategies to empower student learners. Available work blocks

First selections will be made from applications submitted by Monday, December 8, 2003. Applications will be accepted on a continuing basis. Application forms are available online at http://epsd.echalk.com , select AVID under Resources. Applications may be faxed to (201) 567-0903, attention AVID Tutorial Program, mailed to Dr. Segall at the address above, or submitted electronically to AVIDtutors@epsd.echalk.com .Tutorial training will be scheduled based on the availability of those accepted into the program. Student contact will begin as close to December 11 as possible. The district will cover the direct cost for the mandatory criminal history background check.
