Selection Criteria

Required:

1. GPA C- to B+; 75 – 85 (academic core subjects)

2. Student wants to participate in AVID class in lieu of a related arts class and will enroll in honors level academic classes

3. Parent wants the child to participate and commits to support the student and program

4. Previous grade Teachers’ recommendations to take at least intermediate math and language arts classes

5. Previous year daily attendance rate of at least 95%, with exception for extenuating circumstances

6. Student willing to commit to a defined level of deportment within the school setting (behavior clause in AVID contract).

7. An adult from the immediate community is willing to work with the AVID program and the student to fulfill program commitments

8. End-of-year standardized assessment results (score level TBD)

9. No more than one suspension for a violent action in the previous school year (victim status not included)

10. General behavior pattern in the school that respects the learning rights of other students

Preference Given to

1. Student’s family meetings free lunch standard (Low-income)

2. Student will be in the first generation of family to attend college

3. Student faces extraordinary obstacles relative to performance at high levels and/or college admissions.
