EmpowerED

On May 21st, Dwight Morrow High School made history as our My Brother’s Keeper mentees proudly hosted the first annual MBK EmpowerED College & Career Expo — a transformative event that brought together over 60 institutions representing higher education, career pathways, and entrepreneurial futures.

From the moment guests entered, they were welcomed by our MBK students—dressed in their signature burgundy MBK blazers—who took on leadership roles with professionalism and pride. From greeting visitors to assisting vendors, our young leaders showed the world exactly what it means to be EmpowerED.

💬 And don’t just take it from us—here’s what our students had to say:

“I didn’t think I would ever speak with people from schools like GW or Howard, but it makes me want to try harder in school and put myself out there.”

“I learned there are many scholarship options and people to help make college something that is possible for me.”

“I’m going to get an internship at Mood fashion company or become a drone pilot. Whichever pays more. 🙂”

This is what it’s all about—exposing students to what’s possible and giving them the tools to chase it. Thank you to the incredible team who made this day such a success—from faculty and facilities to mentors, volunteers, and community partners.

👏 Special shoutouts to:

  • Jamie Chang and our MBK Coordinators- Dr. Tisdale and Ms. Rodriguez

  • Our MBK mentors and EPSD alumni

  • Parent Matterz and Rhona Vega

  • Dr. Hazelton & Dr. Scamardella for their visionary leadership

  • And of course, our students—the future is yours, and it’s bright.

Our MBK mentees didn’t just attend an event—they created a legacy.
